Chinese Political Advisor Urges Better Afforestation Efforts

BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Tuesday urged intensified efforts in afforestation, combating desertification and promoting the country's ecological development.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of a ceremony held by the China Green Foundation awarding outstanding organizations and individuals in China's afforestation causes.

Jia extended his congratulations to the award winners and appreciated society's commitment and support in afforestation.

Afforestation is a great cause that can benefit later generations, Jia said, noting that China's ecological environment is still in a "vulnerable" condition.
