(Beijing) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has ended his three-day visit to China. His trip seems to have warmed Sino-Russian relations. However, like all exchanges between major powers, Sino-Russian ties are inevitably a struggle of interests.
Before Putin's visit, Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, described the two countries ties as "unprecedented." On Putin's arrival, the official People's Daily published a long article he wrote – an unusual event.
At their official meeting on June 6, President Hu Jintao said "better and more intimate relations between China and Russia are a blessing for the two countries and to the world."
For his part, Putin stressed a "Russian–Chinese comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership that continues to reach an unprecedented high level."
The joint declaration by the two heads of state and a series of agreements that followed create an image of almost heart-warming Sino-Russian relations.
