Yasuo FUKUDA, Former Prime Minister of Japan

Yasuo Fukuda graduated from Waseda University in 1959 and joined an oil company. After he left the company in 1976, Mr. Fukuda was appointed Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister and assumed other positions including a board member of foundations. In 1990, he was first elected to the House of Representatives and served until 2012. During that period, he successively filled important positions in the Liberal Democratic Party: Director of the Foreign Affairs Division, Deputy Secretary-General, and Chairman of the Finance Committee. In 2000, he became Chief Cabinet Secretary and served in the Mori and Koizumi Cabinets until 2004.

In September 2007, Mr. Fukuda took office as the 91st Prime Minister of Japan. As Prime Minister, he successfully transformed the goals and objectives of the government to meet the needs of a new era and pursued such policies as the creation of a sustainable society, the designation of Eco-Model Cities, and a shift to people-centered political and administrative processes. In the foreign policy arena, Mr. Fukuda led international opinion on environmental issues at the G8 Summit, signed the fourth political document between Japan and China, and laid out a new direction for Japan-China cooperation in the 21st century.

Mr. Fukuda served as Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia from 2010 to 2018. Currently, he contributes to the international organization as Chairman of the Council of Advisors.

福田康夫 —— 日本前首相

1959年,福田康夫從早稻田大學畢業,加入了一家石油公司。1976年離開公司後,福田康夫被任命為首相的首席秘書,並擔任其他職位,包括基金會的一名董事會成員。1990年,他首次當選為眾議院議員,任期至2012年。在此期間,他先後出任自由民主黨的重要職位:外事司司長、副秘書長和財務委員會主席。2000年,他成為內閣官房長官,並在森喜朗和小泉內閣任職至2004年。

2007年9月,福田康夫就任日本第91任首相。作為首相,他成功地改變了政府的目標和宗旨,以適應新時代的需要,並推行了創建可持續社會、指定生態示範城市、轉向以人民為中心的政治和行政程序等政策。在外交政策領域,福田康夫在八國集團峰會上領導國際社會就環境問題發表意見,簽署了中日第四份政治文件,為21世紀中日合作指明了新方向。

福田康夫2010年至2018年擔任博鰲亞洲論壇(Boao Forum For Asia)理事長。目前,他以顧問委員會主席的身份為該國際組織作出貢獻。
