Jan 22 , 2018

This article, published by Rhodium Group on January 17, 2018, explores that Chinese direct investment in the United States after a record 2016 dropped by more than a third (35%) in 2017 to $29 billion of consummated deals. It also identifies the value of newly announced Chinese acquisitions in the US fell to $8.7 billion in 2017, a drop of more than 90% from 2016 and the lowest level in six years. Much of the decline was attributed to two main factors. The principal factor behind the decline in China-to-US deal flow was Beijing’s regulatory crackdown on outbound capital flows. The second factor was greater US regulatory pushback.
