Donald Trump and Xi Jinping will hold their first summit in Florida on Thursday and Friday, with the US and Chinese presidents set to discuss everything from trade to the North Korean nuclear threat. US officials have played down the potential for breakthroughs on contentious issues and stressed that the meeting is aimed at starting a relationship and setting a framework for future talks. But Mr Trump told the Financial Times last week in an interview that he “would not be at all surprised if we did something that would be very dramatic and good for both countries”.
