Ronnie C. Chan -- Chairman of Hang Lung Group Limited

Mr. Ronnie C. Chan is Chairman of Hang Lung Group Limited and its subsidiary Hang Lung Properties Limited, both publicly listed in Hong Kong, with the latter being a constituent stock of the Hang Seng Index. Founded in Hong Kong in 1960, the Group expanded into mainland China in 1992, developing, owning and managing world-class commercial complexes in key cities like Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Wuxi, Jinan, Dalian, Kunming, Wuhan, and Hangzhou.

Mr. Chan is Co-founder of Morningside, an international investment group established in 1986 with venture capital and private equity investments in manufacturing, TMT, and biotechnology. Morningside is strongly committed to social responsibility through the Morningside Foundation.

In Hong Kong and mainland China, Mr. Chan is Chairman of the Executive Committee of The Better Hong Kong Foundation, Convener of Hong Kong Development Forum, a Vice President of The Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong, and a Governing Board member of the China-United States Exchange Foundation. He founded and chairs the China Heritage Fund which restores cultural relics in China, and is a co-founding Director of The Forbidden City Cultural Heritage Conservation Foundation in Beijing. He is founding Chairman of the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society, and founding Chairman Emeritus of Asia Business Council. He is a former government appointed Non-Executive Director of Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong, former Chairman of the Hong Kong-United States Business Council, former Chairman of the Executive Committee of One Country Two Systems Research Institute, and former Vice President and former Advisor of the China Development Research Foundation in Beijing.

Internationally, Mr. Chan is Chairman Emeritus of Asia Society and Chairman of its Hong Kong Center, a founding Trustee of African-Asian Society and a Director of the Board of Peterson Institute for International Economics. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Committee on United States-China Relations, and Committee of 100. Mr. Chan is a former director of Standard Chartered PLC, Motorola, and Enron. He is a former member of the governing boards of World Economic Forum, East-West Center, Pacific Council on International Policy, Eisenhower Fellowships, and The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation. He is also a former member of the advisory board of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta.

Mr. Chan is active in education. He is an Honorary Court Member of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, a Trustee of the University of Southern California, and a Governing Board member of the Indian School of Business. He serves on the President’s Council on International Activities at Yale University. He is an Advisor on Strategic Development to Tsinghua University, a Co-Chairman of Hang Lung Center for Real Estate at Tsinghua University, and a Vice Chairman of the International Advisory Board of the School of Management at Fudan University. Mr. Chan previously served as a Trustee of China Foreign Affairs University, a Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Center for Real Estate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a member of the Advisory Council of Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University, the International Advisory Committee of The Pacific Basin Institute at Pomona College, and the International Advisory Committee of the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at Waseda University. He was a Brittingham Visiting Scholar at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Notable philanthropic programs and projects initiated or supported by Mr. Chan include: Morningside Music Bridge; International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) where the Morningside Medals of Mathematics are awarded; Morningside Center of Mathematics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences; the Morningside College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong; endowed professorships at Harvard University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong; and various scholarships and programs in Hong Kong and mainland China which has supported over 10,000 students. Since 2014, the Morningside Foundation has given US$350 million to endow the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, named after Mr. Chan’s late father. In the same period, Mr. Chan and his wife gave US$20 million to endow the Mrs. T.H. Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California.

Mr. Chan is a frequent speaker at international conferences, and has published numerous articles in Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, Newsweek, Fortune, Asian Wall Street Journal, Far Eastern Economic Review, and Japan Times. Mr. Chan holds an MBA from the University of Southern California, and was conferred honorary doctorate degrees by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Tel Aviv University. Mr. Chan has received many awards for his contributions to society, which includes: Builder of Bridges Award (Asia Society) for strengthening ties between Asians and Americans; The “Passing the Torch – Outstanding Figures of Chinese Cultural Heritage Protection” Award (China Foundation For Cultural Heritage Conservation); Asa V. Call Alumni Achievement Award (University of Southern California); Alumnus of the Year Award (California State University, Los Angeles); US-Asia International Public Service and Philanthropy Award (US-Asia Institute); Philanthropy Excellence Award (Committee of 100); Chern Prize (ICCM) for exceptional public service in support of mathematics; Grand Bauhinia Medal (HKSAR Government) in recognition of his long and distinguished community service; Lifetime Achievement Award for Leadership (Hong Kong Association of New York); Rockefeller Award for Distinguished Philanthropic Service (International House); Dwight D. Eisenhower Global Leadership Award (Business Council for International Understanding); and the inaugural “Friends of Diplomacy” Award (Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in the HKSAR). Mr. Chan is 69 years of age and resides in Hong Kong with his wife.

陳啟宗先生是恒隆集團有限公司及其附屬公司恒隆地產有限公司之董事長;兩者均在香港上市,而恒隆地產為恒生指數成份股。恒隆於一九六零年在香港成立,從一九九二年起擴展至中國內地,在多個重點城市如上海、天津、瀋陽、無錫、濟南、大連、昆明、武漢與杭州,發展、持有和管理世界級大型商業群項目。
陳氏亦為晨興集團的聯席創辦人。晨興是一家國際投資集團,於一九八六年成立,主要從事製造業、科技媒體通訊和生物科技的創業投資和私募股權投資。晨興透過晨興基金會一直致力於履行社會責任。

在香港和中國內地,陳氏為香港明天更好基金執行委員會主席、香港發展論壇召集人、香港地產建設商會副會長,以及中美交流基金會理事會成員。他亦是香港中國文物保護基金會創辦人兼會長、北京故宮文物保護基金會發起理事、亞洲公益事業研究中心創會會長,以及亞洲企業領袖協會榮休創會會長。陳氏曾獲政府委任為香港證券及期貨事務監察委員會非執行董事,也曾出任港美商務委員會會長、一國兩制研究中心執行委員會主席,和中國發展研究基金會理事會副會長及顧問。

在國際方面,陳氏為亞洲協會(美國紐約)榮休主席及其香港中心主席、非亞協會(南非)創會董事會成員,及彼得森國際經濟研究所(美國華府)之董事會成員。他是美國人文與科學院院士,也是多個國際組織的成員,包括外交協會(美國紐約)、美中關係全國委員會(美國紐約)、百人會(美國紐約)等。陳氏曾出任渣打銀行有限公司(英國倫敦)、摩托羅拉公司(美國芝加哥)和安然公司(美國侯斯頓)之董事。陳氏曾擔任世界經濟論壇(瑞士)、東西中心(美國夏威夷)、太平洋國際政策協會(美國洛杉磯)、艾森豪威爾交流計劃(美國費城)和曼斯菲爾德基金(美國華府)等董事會成員,及戰略及國際研究中心(印尼耶加達)顧問委員會成員。

在教育方面,陳氏為香港科技大學顧問委員會榮譽委員及前校董、美國南加州大學校董、印度商學院管治委員會成員,及美國耶魯大學校長國際事務委員會成員。陳氏為清華大學戰略發展顧問、清華大學恒隆房地產研究中心理事會聯合主席,及復旦大學管理學院國際顧問委員會副主席。陳氏曾擔任中國外交學院董事會成員、美國麻省理工學院房地產中心顧問委員會聯席主席、美國史丹福大學Freeman Spogli國際研究中心顧問委員會成員、波莫納學院太平洋盆地研究所國際顧問委員會成員、日本東京早稻田大學亞洲太平洋研究中心國際顧問委員會成員,及美國威斯康辛大學麥迪遜分校Brittingham訪問學者。

陳氏發起或支持的主要慈善項目包括:晨興音樂橋、頒發晨興數學獎的世界華人數學家大會、中國科學院晨興數學中心、香港中文大學晨興書院;在美國哈佛大學、香港科技大學與香港大學設立教授席;在香港和中國內地設立助學金,二十多年來資助了逾一萬名學生。自二零一四年,晨興基金會捐贈了三億五千萬美元予美國哈佛大學陳曾熙公共衞生學院以紀念已故陳父。同時期,陳氏與夫人捐贈二千萬美元予美國南加州大學陳曾熙夫人職能科學與職能治療學部。

除經常應邀在國際會議上演講外,陳氏亦在中英文雜誌及報章發表文章,包括《金融時報》、《國際先驅論壇報》、《新聞週刊》、《財富》、《亞洲華爾街日報》、《遠東經濟評論》和《日本時報》等。陳氏持有美國南加州大學工商管理學碩士學位,獲頒授香港科技大學、香港中文大學和以色列特拉维夫大學榮譽博士學位。陳氏榮獲多項獎項以表揚他對社會的貢獻,包括:亞洲協會領袖獎(美國紐約的亞洲協會),表彰他在促進亞洲與美國之聯繫的貢獻;第二屆“薪火相傳——中國文化遺產保護年度傑出人物”(北京的中國文物保護基金會);校友最高榮譽獎(美國南加州大學及美國加州州立大學洛杉磯分校);國際公共服務及慈善事業獎(美國華府的美亞協會);慈善卓越獎(美國紐約的百人會);陳省身獎(世界華人數學家大會),表彰他在推動數學發展的卓越貢獻;大紫荊勳章(香港特別行政區政府),表彰他多年來熱心參與社會服務;領袖終身成就獎(紐約香港協會);洛克菲勒傑出慈善服務獎(紐約國際學舍);艾森豪威爾全球領袖獎(美國國際諒解商務委員會);「外交之友」榮譽稱號(外交部駐港特派員公署) 。陳氏現年六十九歲,與妻子居住在香港。
