Professor Lawrence J. Lau -- Ralph and Claire Landau Professor of Economics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Professor Lawrence J. Lau received his B.S. degree (with Great Distinction) in Physics from Stanford University in 1964 and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1966 and 1969 respectively. He joined the faculty of the Department of Economics at Stanford University in 1966, becoming Professor of Economics in 1976 and the first Kwoh-Ting Li Professor in Economic Development at Stanford University in 1992. From 1992 to 1996, he served as a Co-Director of the Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford University, and from 1997 to 1999, as the Director of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. He became Kwoh-Ting Li Professor in Economic Development, Emeritus, at Stanford University in 2006. From 2004 to 2010, Professor Lau served as Vice-Chancellor (President) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. From 2010 to 2014, he served as Chairman of CIC International (Hong Kong) Co., Limited. Since 2007, Professor Lau has also been serving concurrently as Ralph and Claire Landau Professor of Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Professor Lau specialises in economic development, economic growth, and the economies of East Asia, including that of China. In 1966, he developed the first econometric model of China. He has authored, co-authored, or edited seven books and published more than 190 articles and notes in international professional journals.

He is a Member of Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi, a Fellow of the Econometric Society, an Academician of Academia Sinica, Taipei, a Member of the Conference for Research in Income and Wealth, an Overseas Fellow of Churchill College, the University of Cambridge, an Honorary Member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and an Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. Professor Lau was awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa, by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1999, the degrees of Doctor, honoris causa, by Soka University and Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by Waseda University in 2007, the degree of Doctor of Management Sciences, honoris causa, by the National Central University, Taiwan in 2010, the degree of Doctor of Economics, honoris causa, by Fudan University in 2011 and the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014.

Professor Lau was a member of the 11th and 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and a Vice-Chairman of its Subcommittee of Economics. In addition, he currently serves as a Vice-Chairman of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, a Vice-President of the China Science Center of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, a Vice-Chairman of the China Society for Finance and Banking, an Adviser to the National Bureau of Statistics of the People’s Republic of China, a member of the International Advisory Council of the China Development Bank and Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) Finance Institute. In addition, Professor Lau also serves as a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Chairman of its Governance Sub-Committee, a Member of its Currency Board Sub-Committee and Investment Sub-Committee, a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Belt and Road Committee, a Vice-Chairman of Our Hong Kong Foundation, a Member and Chairman of the Prize Recommendation Committee, LUI Che Woo Prize Company, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, Taipei. He also serves as an Independent Non-executive Director of AIA Group Limited, CNOOC Limited Hong Kong, Hysan Development Company Limited and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation, and an Independent Non-executive Director of Far EasTone Telecommunications Company Limited, Taipei.

劉遵義教授 —— 香港中文大學藍饒富暨藍凱麗經濟學講座教授

劉遵義教授一九六四年取得史丹福大學物理學理學士學位,並先後於一九六六年及一九六九年取得加州大學柏克萊分校經濟學文學碩士與哲學博士學位。他自一九六六年起任教於史丹福大學經濟系,一九七六年晉升為正教授,一九九二年出任該校首任李國鼎經濟發展講座教授,一九九二年至一九九六年間擔任史丹福大學亞太研究中心共同主任,一九九七年至一九九九年間擔任史丹福經濟政策研究所主任,二零零六年自史丹福大學退休並出任李國鼎經濟發展榮休講座教授。二零零四年至二零一零年間劉教授擔任香港中文大學校長。二零一零年至二零一四年間劉教授擔任中投國際(香港)有限公司董事長,並自二零零七年至今兼任香港中文大學藍饒富暨藍凱麗經濟學講座教授。

劉教授專研經濟發展與經濟增長,以及包括中國在內的東亞經濟。最早之中國計量經濟模型是由他於一九六六年建立。劉教授著有專書七種,曾於國際學術期刊發表論文一百九十多篇。

劉教授現為 Phi Beta Kappa 和 Tau Beta Pi 會員、計量經濟學會院士、臺北中央研究院院士、Conference for Research in Income and Wealth 會員、劍橋大學邱吉爾學院海外院士、中國社會科學院榮譽資深研究員,以及國際歐亞科學院院士。他於一九九九年獲香港科技大學頒授榮譽社會科學博士學位,二零零七年獲日本創價大學榮譽博士學位、日本早稻田大學榮譽法學博士學位,二零一零年獲臺灣國立中央大學榮譽管理學博士學位,二零一一年獲復旦大學榮譽經濟學博士學位,復於二零一四年獲香港中文大學榮譽法學博士學位。

劉教授任中國人民政治協商會議第十一届及第十二屆全國委員會委員及其經濟委員會副主任。劉教授是中國國際經濟交流中心副理事長、國際歐亞科學院中國科學中心副主席、中國金融學會副會長,也是中華人民共和國國家統計局顧問、中國國家開發銀行國際顧問委員會成員及香港中文大學 (深圳) 高等金融研究院理事會理事長。此外,他也是香港金融管理局外匯基金諮詢委員會委員和其轄下管治委員會主席、貨幣發行委員會及投資委員會委員、香港貿發局一帶一路委員會委員、團結香港基金副主席及呂志和獎獎項推薦委員會委員及主席,以及臺北蔣經國國際學術交流基金會董事會成員。 他也是香港友邦保險控股有限公司、中國海洋石油有限公司、希慎興業有限公司及中芯國際集成電路製造有限公司獨立非執行董事及臺灣遠傳電信股份有限公司獨立董事暨常務董事。
