Kerry, China FM to Discuss U.N. Resolution on N. Korea This Week

Feb 22 , 2016

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will hold talks this week in Washington to discuss how to deal with North Korea's latest nuclear test and launch of a long-range rocket, China's foreign ministry said Monday.

The three-day visit by Wang to Washington, starting Tuesday, comes as the U.S. and China have been struggling to obtain a new U.N. Security Council resolution against North Korea's Jan. 6 nuclear test, the fourth test by the isolated country, and its Feb. 7 rocket launch.

This week's talks between Kerry and Wang are also aimed at discussing bilateral issues, global and regional security issues of common concern, but China's foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying made it clear that North Korea is one of the top agenda items.
