U.S.-China Trade Fight Risks Fragmenting Global Market, Says Beijing Ambassador

U.S.-China economic relations are at their lowest point since China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. Each side has whacked each other with tariffs and other restrictions—with more perhaps on the way.

At the end of the week, President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinpingwill meet in Buenos Aires as part of the Group of 20 meetings and look for ways to ease tensions. The Wall Street Journal’s Bob Davis and Gerald F. Seib sat down with Beijing’s veteran ambassador to the U.S., Cui Tiankai to discuss these issues. Following is an edited transcript.
