Stephen Hayes is President Emeritus of the Corporate Council on Africa and the awardee of the Ron Brown Award for International Leadership, the U.S. Department of Commerce's highest award. He first visited China as President of the American Center of International Leadership, an organization dedicated to bringing future and emerging leaders together.

It has been thirty-four years since my first visit to China. Since then, I have returned many times, never as a tourist though I have seen much of the country and met many of its people, but almost always in discussions around US-China relations.
